Maths Blog ---WK-6

Monday 28th August
WALT:Basic Angles
S.C: Basic Angles

This task I took was very challenging only because I haven't focused that much on "Angles" this term and maybe because I had to refrsh my min alot when it to doing this task. I Learnt how to tell where a 90 degree angle would be on a specific shapes.
Tuesday
WALT: Calculating angles around a point.
S.C: -Know how many degrees in a full turn, half turn , quarter turns etc..
Today this task was very challenging because I didn't recognise the lines and angles in the questions. As I kept trying again and again i finally got the hang of it and now I know what degrees are in different angles (While some of them)...Anyways I liked this task only because it challenged my brain ALOT and because I leanrt something new.
Wednesday
WALT: Exploring Length
S.C: Know about: MM,CM,M,KM
I did maths on Length and it was mostly about what type of lengths you would use to measure specific objects . We also also learnt more the "MM,M,CM,KM" and what they mean. This task was Challenging because I had to remember how many "Centimetres" are in a "Metre" or something but questions similar to that one. I probably learnt the most in this lesson only because Lengths are mostly a subject i havent learnt that much in my school years so far.
Thursday
WALT: Word Problems
S.C: -
-Use basic facts knowledge
-Use the same measurement units .
-Convert measurements between each other.
This task was 50/50 because osme of the questions I figured it out easily while the others had me working them out for a while.I learnt how to convert some type of length to another type of length. My next steps is to remember small of ways of how to turn a specific number/length into something else.

Black Ferns vs England -Article
WALT: Current Event Summary. and kiwikids News.
S.C:Current event Summary .and Kiwikids news.

My task was to read a news artcile and reflect on it on a "Current Event Summary" activity. I found this simple and easy because I did a article that I enjoyed reading and filled out the activity sheet fast. I didn't find anything challenging apart from asnwering questions that started with "How did this happen" or "WHy did this happen". I also did read Theory where I had to read a piece of text and answer questions about it.

Tuesday
WALT: Making Connections
S.C: Making Connections to SELF,TEXT and WORLD.

This task was pretty straight forward, My news Article was about Hurricane harvey hitting Texas in the United States. My activity was to make connections to the story and wirte down things that it reminded me of or things similar to the siituation.
Wednesday
WALT: Into the book-Visualizing,Questioning,Summarise,Inferring,Make Connections,Synthesizing,Prior Knowledge,Evaluating,
S.C: Use the clues in all of these "Reading strategies"
Today my task was to use all of those reading strategies ^ in one question and I had to explian my answer and some clues I found in the question. My task was to fill in gaps about a "Circus" and what ever you use to fill the gaps has to go along with the story.
Thursday
WALT: Reciprocal Reading
S.C:-Predict what the story is about by using headings/pictures
-Ask questions about the text-
Clarify anything you have read that you don’t understand
-Summarise what the text was about
This session was veryyy DIFFICULT because I didn't undetstand the story that much and I couldnt visulize what it was about because it was part of my job to. But it was a very interseting story because it had a different to structure to most storys i've read in the past. My next steps is probably to read the story and ask questions to my group when I need help.

Maths Blog WK-5

Monday:
WALT: Geometry -Finding the Perimeter of shapes.
S.C:  Know how to find the perimeter of different shapes.
In this task I had to find perimeters of shapes and I found this alright because all I had to do was measure the outside and that would be my answer.I kind of found some shapes hard because either they had heaps of edges and corners or sometimes because I was distracted by many around me.I liked this task because I knew what I was doing and how to do it. I learnt how to find perimeters of shapes and also managed to memorize some perimeters for some shapes.

Tuesday
WALT:  Sunday Time Lit-Division and Subraction
S.C: Know answers Fast .
This game was fun because i versed other people from different school especialy intermediates and colleges.I got answers right from the game because most question were easy ones .I enjoyed this because I learnt some ways to remember about dividing -Minusing numbers,
Wednesday
WALT: Adding Fractions With The Same Denominator

S.C: Use Possessive Adjectives.

This task took me a little bit longer to understand , but I got the idea of it and now I know more than I knew before. The task I done included me underlining Adjectives and also Circling Classifying adjectives. I managed to find the Possessive adjectives in this task as well.

Tuesday
 WALT: Possessive adjectives (Unit 12)
S.C: Recognize possessive adjectives.
This task was challenging because some of these words I couldn't recognize some of them in the question as "Possessive adjectives" as instead I thought they were just words we use nearly every day. I enjoyed this activity because it made me learn more about possessive words and also helped me recognize possessive words.
Wednesday and Thursday
WALT: SRA CARDS
S.C: SRA CARDS
Today my task was to read a SRA cards and answer the questions that comes with it. I read a story about a group friends who found a $10 bill while on there way to school. They started to ask there school friends if they had laso $10 and they had said no. Untill one of the students came and fakes it as if it was her own $10 .....In the end the group of friends give her the $10 because it was going towards a fundraiser that was happeining at the school.  I got 8/9 questions right. This task I enjoyed because I read a SRA card that was harder than the usual SRA card level i read off.

I enjoyed this because I was thinking of a family legacie in my own family.

Maths Blog-Wk 4

Monday

WALT:Order Decimals
S.C: Find the Greatest and Lowest decimal points.

This task was fasinating because I had to remember how to work out some prblems from Last week. I mangaed to fimd the Greatest and Lowest In some numbers but I reakon I kind of got a good memory of how to find out the Greastest and lowest numbers.
Tuesday
WALT: Recognize a Cube and Cuboid
S.C:Know the basic properties of cube and Cuboids.
This task was very very FUN because it gave me more knowledge to recognizing the 2 shapes and brang out some of my competitiveness out which made it even more fun for me. I learnt how many "Cuboids and Cubes" you need to make a certain shape and what it look like.
Wednesday
WALT: Is to Investaigate faces, edges and vertices in 3D shapes.
S.C: To read the how many faces , edges and vertices there are in different Geometry shapes.
This task I did today was about answering questions that told me to find how many "Faces, Edges and Vertices" there are in a specific shape.I found this challenging and fun because I had to count and find the answer by a time limit. Either than that I learned heaps during this task.
Thursday:
WALT:Name 3-Dimensional shapes.
S.C: Name the shapes and decribe them using Geometry Terms.
I did this task today and I had to name shapes that was given to us in the questions . The shapes were :
-Cube
-Cuboid
-Sphere
-Cylinder
-Triangular Prism
-Cone.
It was easy to spot what the names were because It had a box of answer on the side and all we had to do was match them to the picture. But before knwoing that I already knew the names of these shapes. Our 2nd task was to Describe a shape and that shape was " Cuboid" .We had to use Geometry Words Like :
-Vertices (Corner)
-Edges
-Parallel Lines
-Faces
Etc....
I enjoyed this task because I was recaping on what I already knew. And It gave me some more Knowlegde about Word when Describing Shapes or other Objects.

Cyber Smart-Improving Comments.

Today We had Cyber smart with Mr. V and we learnt how to write a proper comment. He taught us to use the "P.T.H" which stands for , Positive , Thoughtful and Helpful. To break this down , In a blog comment you have to include what you liked about his/her blog post and then include a piece of advice you think they could do better next time. Then end the comment with something helpful . My task was to find someone else's blog comment and improve it in a way. So I found a comment that had just said "Cool I love it" this is necessarily not a good comment because it doesn't say who it is and what the author could do better next time. So here's my work on how I improved it....

Reading Blog

Monday:

WALT: Ask Questions
S.C: Find question starters that can help me with my reading.

This task was easy and hard...it was easy because I asked questions that was based on the title of the text, and made question myself that I couldv'e asked someone else. The hard part was prbably having to
look at the title of the text and having to ask DIFFERENT question for each one. I guess I did meet up to my success criteria and I think I did what was expected in the activity.

Tuesday
WALT:  Answer the SRA cards Correctly
S.C: Understand the text and the questions. (For Me)
Today I did the SRA cards for reading and this activity was actually fun.For this task I read a text that was at the on my level and also the questions. This story was about "Recycling" and how a boy did the procees of starting a Recycling club, where you find trash and recycle ,Reuse or reduce at the school. Also the groups makes fun ideas to get the school more involved in this.I marked my questions and got the score of 7/9 questions right...I reakon I understood the text well and also questions.Maybe just focus on reading the question more throughly.
Wednesday
WALT use a range of strategies to understand a text

SC:
  • Predict what the story is about by using headings/pictures
  • Ask questions about the text
  • Clarify anything you have read that you don’t understand
  • Summarise what the text was about
Today we read a story that was about a girl  named Moana who saved a little from getting hit by truck. My job in this was to ask questions to my group and know the answer to them. This reading session was fun because it challenged my mind to think outside the box more often, because it sounds like a childrens story but with more obstacles to understand the story.

Thursday
WALT:Common and Proper Nouns.
S.C: Is to Circle all the Proper and common Nouns people use on a daily day basis.
This task was about finding the common nouns in the activity and also use them to make sentences.I found out all the nouns and managed to make sentences out of them aswell.

Maths Blog

Monday:

WALT: Recongnise halves, quaters , tenths and hundreths as decimals and percentages.
S:C: Common Fractions.

I kind of got what this activity was ...So I understood the questions that started with "What is 3/10 in Percentage" and also questions that asked me to "Match a fraction with its Decimal Equilavent.
I found the common frations in most of these questions .And the easiest question for was to answer what is "3/10" in a percentage because all i had to do was multiply the 2 together and your answer would be "30%"

Tuesday
WALT: Finding how many triangles are needed to make a certain shape. Also finding a fraction of a area.
S.C: Trying to find how many triangles are needed and also finding out how to find the fraction of an area basically.
Today I did a task that involved me trying to find how many trianlges are needed to make a certain shape. To do this I had to draw triangles on the shapes so I could find my answer that way, and successfully it worked. Now it was on to trying to find a fraction of area: When I tried the first timeI didn't really get the point of finding the proper fraction of the area.  But I think to do this process you have to multiply the Width and the height.
Wednesday
WALT: Using Geometry words in direction's
S.C: Is to use Geometry words and tell directions by using the cardinal points.(For Me)
This task was fun and easy, because I knew the cardinal points off by heart and this made it easier for me.Also the other task was trying to work out what "1/4 and 1/2" turns were..and I also leanr something new which was finding out the difference between "Anticlockwise" and "Clockise" was. The differences between these 2 was that "Clockwise" turns the way as a clock .So you just have to imagine a clock and which way it's going. "Anticlockwise" is just exactly like "Clockwise" BUT going the oppisite way.
I would that I did reach my Success Criteria because I found out some new wrods I could use in my maths and I used the cardianl points to answer questions .
Thursday
WALT: Tell between Parallel and Perpendicular.
S.C: Is know about Perpendicualr and Parallel
Today's Task was like explaining Objects that have Perpendicular or Parallel lines on them. Also had to write down where the Perpendicular lines were and where the Parallel lines are aswell.
Friday
WALT: Order Decimals & Fractions.
S.C: Put a list of Fractions and Decimals in Order.
When it comes to wroking out fractions is a bit of a struggle because in this task I had to the find the
"Greatest" between 2 fractions. Also When it comes to Decimals I have fun because I get to extend my learning  in Decimals and i find that I learn more in Decimals then in any other Subject based underneth Maths.I'll say that I did put the list of fractions and decimals in order even though it took me like 3-5 tries.

Reading During The Week

WALT:English Skills Book-Page 1-5...Telling between Nouns and Verbs.
S.C: Underline the Nouns  & Tell between Nouns and Verbs.
I didn't quite get the success criteria because I didn't know that much  the difference between nouns and verbs very well....but in the end I kind-of got an idea of what it is now. My only problem is just remembering the differences between them when I get up on the spot to tell which one is which.
This week I did English skills and for me this was easy and hard at times mostly because the words that was in the task were  words that I couldn't pronounce properly but after that I figured out how to say the word .I found it easy to figure out if the word was a noun or a verb.

Maths During The week

WALT: To describe shapes using Geometry Vocabulary.

The Maths Lesson that taught me the most this week was learning how to descibe shapes using Geometry Vocabulary because I didn't know many words in this type of this maths. Also because the task that was given to us had question that involved "thinking" really hard and also some of my competitiveness came out only because we were racing other groups aswell.
